Corporate Identities: Things to Consider

Some of you have got a great start on your corporate identities; however, as I have given you some formative feedback, I have wondered if you have considered a few of these logistical items listed below. These are important issues (in addition to what we discussed in class) that you need to ensure you have considered when designing corporate identities. Also, I have noticed several of you are putting a lot of time into the logo idea and concept - which is good - but because you have a deadline you need to quickly get some audience feedback and move on.

1. Audience (what are you trying to communicate; remember think market, culture, global vs. local, what type of visual connection and content should there be, etc.)
2. Client wants and needs (overall concept look and feel)
3. Cost of printing (where are you going to print at, do they have special requirements?)
4. How many colors (increase # of colors = increased cost; also might prove more difficult for printing on different mediums/ colors.)
5. Spot colors and varnishes (standing out vs. cost vs. printing on different items)
6. Paper type and quality (where is the paper coming from? What type, color, weight of paper are you going to use, etc.?)
7. Quantity (how many do you need to get started; new hires; etc.)
8. Reproducibility
9. Evolution/ contemporary issues
10. Copyright/ trade mark issues
