Tonight's class - internet safety!

Tonight's discussion will concern the various areas associated to Internet safety. The following list will be a job aide you will use in class to guide your learning.

A resource for looking up basic info on a topic you don’t know is Wikipedia.org

Group/ Discussion/ Research Job Aide:

1. Enable and disable Popups

a. What is a Popup?

b. Enable both Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers to block popups

i. Use the help feature if you don’t know how

2. Checking “what sites have been viewed on the browser.”

a. How can you view what sites have been recently viewed on a browser?

b. Use the help feature if you don’t know how to do this on Internet Explorer or Firefox

3. Removing Spyware from your computer

a. What is Spyware?

b. What is a cookie?

c. Download the free program “Spybot-Search and Destroy”

d. Find a website that has popups and see if it catches anything

e. You can also try out “ad-ware” if you want – it too is a good one


4. Configuring email filters

a. Learn how to set a filter on your preferred email program

i. Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.

b. Use the “help” link or search boxes to see how to do this
