50 Coolest Websites: 2005

Recently TIME released their opinion of the "50 Coolest Websites: 2005". I found their insight and choices interesting, but I think I will start cataloging and later post "Geoff's 2005 Awards for the Top 50 Websites." I feel it would be just as accurate; and besides what does the word "Cool" really mean, and why are we allowing/ believing in the definition TIME has suggested? Typically "Cool" has been associated with pop. culture or contemporary trendy items, thoughts, etc. – in fact I remember in grade school “cool” being associated with “pegged pants” and the “New Kids on the Block.” Were those things really that “cool” – sure they were accepted pop. culture items, but who cares?! They never made a positively significant impact on society (well, that’s not totally true; I do remember one of their music videos helping me learn the Roger Rabbit!) That aside, I would have rather read about websites that were the top 50 purposeful, useful, creative, well designed, educational websites. O well, I guess that's reason enough to start my own top 50 list.
