Blogger of the month: Melissa Graham

To be honest there have been several interesting reflections, and I sure hope you are all realizing how effective a little websearch and reflection is as personal development. Melissa seems to have taken this to the next level and is consistently posting intersting ideas, here are two examples:

RSS feeds and websites -- Melissa Graham
This is a weblog created by an elementary school teacher. It has a few assignments on it that she has her kids do. I think it's a good example of how we can use weblogs in our own classrooms, as well as give us a few teaching ideas as well.

This is a website called Distance-Educator. This particular RSS feed has the daily news on it about education and what is happening with it. The news is up-to-date and very informative. I thought this would be a good one to have

These are a few really cool websites with teaching ideas and related subjects. I discovered these in my search for good weblogs and rss feeds to put into my aggregator.

This is Intel's website. It has a section entirely on weblogs and how they are being used around the country in school. Although I didn't find an RSS feed directly to this site, it provides links to the weblogs that it talks about in its news section.

In light of all that we have learned so far (which is a lot more than I had expected to learn in two weeks), I am amazed at how little I knew about technology. I have always thought of myself as being fairly up-to-date with the technological world and fairly knowledgeable about how to use current technology. After these last couple of classes I have realized that I've only been skimming the surface of what I could do.
I've always just used the basic programs: Excel, Access, Word, Powerpoint, and the Internet.
Even with these programs though, I don't think I really understand the extent of their power. I'm excited for this class because I want to learn how to better use these and other tools to serve the students that will be in my classroom. I know that I will have many kids, each with different abilities and levels of understanding. Through technology, I can learn to use programs that will help them learn better.

I am also very excited about Blogs and Bloglines. I think this is the coolest way to keep in touch with teachers and students in the class. I like being able to know right away when someone posts a message, rather than waiting for days for me to check my email. It helps me know what's going on. I also like being able to get news right away.

On that line, has anyone found some good Early Childhood RSS feeds?
Have an awesome weekend!
