I can already tell...

I can already tell that I am going to love Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf and Elder David A. Bednar! As they testified and introduced themselves I was touched by their humble approach to their new sacred calling. These truly are men called of God.

Being that we had a limited work load this past week, and considering we were recently blessed with a wonderful conference weekend I thought it might be appropriate if we shared some of our experiences, favorite stories, etc. from conference. (Don't feel that you have to, but oftentimes we better understand something by sharing it.)

Personally, I find it hard to chose just one, but in an effort to keep this Blog moderately short I will focus on the wonderful testimony of our beloved Prophet. To feel and see his continued passion and love for his "Dream Girl" I was touched and moved to re-dedicate myself as a more honorable and dedicated husband (and soon to be father.) How wonderful it is to have such a magnificent example of hard work, dedication, charity, service, faith and destiny as our President and liaison to our Heavenly Father.

I was once told by a friend that they looked forward to General Conference more than their birthday, Christmas, even the Super Bowl. I didn't believe them (I was still young at the time.) However, as I finally start to spiritually mature and better understand the profound influence of the gospel on my life and those around me, I cherish the moments where we can "come listen to (the) prophets' voice" and feel the truthfulness of the message they share!

And getting back to our field of educational technology ... Isn't it amazing how the Church is using technology to spread the gospel? I, too, have grown to love Gen. Conf. in my older age (hah, hah). I remember "old" people with conference tapes in their car and thought they were really weird.

But back to my point, you probably know about the mp3 site on lds.org that allows you to download mp3 versions of conference for several sessions back. I listen to these all the time! KBYU also is putting all of the devotionals in mp3 format online for free download too. Now we can enjoy the spirit of Conference and of our great leaders anytime we want.

Finally, did you read in the Church News about scriptures.byu.edu? Awesome! It's a website that for any selected scripture will give you everytime a GA has quoted it in conference. Think how cool this will be for our own personal scripture study.

I love to see how the Church is using technology to improve its gospel instruction.

I always am so sad when conference is over. I feel like there is so much more to learn, and two days just isn't enough to cover everything! To pick a favorite talk would be very hard for me, but I did have a wonderful experience during the afternoon session of conference on Saturday. My boyfriend and I were able to attend the session, and I was overwhelmed as that beautiful choir of children sang the primary song, "Whenever I hear the song of a bird, or look at the blue, blue sky..." "He gave me my eyes that I might see, the color of butterfly wings, He gave me my ears that I might hear the magical sounds of thee..." I worked in an orphanage over the summer, with severaly mentally and physically handicapped children. Not a day passed in that orphanage that I didn't sing this song to my children, and so hearing the choir sing this song brought back a lot of feelings of love and compassion and charity that I felt this summer. I am so grateful for the spirit in my life, and the commandments that have been set to follow, so that it can truly be a constant companion to me.

The talk I remember very well was given by President Monson. He said to fill our minds with truth, our hearts with love, and our lives with service. What a succinct way to remind us how to live as members of the church! Being from Sandy, Utah, I am very excited about the announcement for another temple in the Salt Lake Valley. I imagine it will be out west somewhere. I loved President Hinckley's dear talk about his wife. They have given us the greatest example of what marriage can and should be like.
