So, you want to teach!
This past Friday while walking through the career fair and eating lunch with several of the district representatives, I was encouraged to discover that there are good people out there trying to make positive differences in public education. One such district was Lancaster, CA. As I talked with the two principals representing Lancaster I was impressed with their interest in technology education, teacher support and training, and their passion for teaching. They mentioned that even as principals they loved to still be in the classroom working with the students; it seemed that they really understand the importance and joy of teaching. Their passion reminded me of a quote by Pres. David O. McKay, "No greater responsibility can rest upon any man [or woman], than to be a teacher of God's children" (in Conference Report, Oct. 1916, 57). Note: Lancaster, CA. is located about an hour in land from Orange County, has a starting pay scale at $42,000, with great benefits, in addition to a relatively lost cost of living. Although most of the people at the career fair seemed to be looking for elementary ed. teachers, I still feel technology is a viable, exciting area to be involved in.
