I came across an interesting article on web 2.0 logo design on Digg today, and although it is a tongue and check thing it's worth a rapid read, certainly when considering it has to do with what we're studying.
I am excited about being part of the French Studies design contest, however, I must be honest with you: to win you will have to beat out any and everyone out there who thinks they can design (which means anyone who owns Photoshop, and or Illustrator, maybe, dare I say it, even MS Word, or Paint - yuck), and your design will really need to be hit the various audience market we discussed in class: BYU admin, BYU French faculty, BYU students studying French, members (be it RMs, actually Frenchies, etc.) of the French club, etc. In addition your design will have to be original, but not so crazy that it wouldn't look good on various types of media (shirts, cups, golf balls, letter head, website, email signature, etc.) I have a sneaking feeling some of you think logo design is a lot easier than it is; it's not hard to communicate, but it is hard to effectively communicate the message you want! At any rate this will be a good experience - and because I think it is a helpful practical learning adventure I am going to modify the Photoshop assignment - stay posted.
