I would be amiss if I didn't end this semester by thanking you all for the great semester, and for your patience with me as a first time IPT 287 instructor. I had a great time, learned a lot, and will make the class even that much better next semester.
If you have any questions concerning your grades please contact me. There shouldn't be any surprises; there were several great final presentations the other evening, as well as many well-written lesson plans!
Final thought:
I recently read a book called "Mindtools" by Jonassen. It was a great read and provided an interesting insight into what we were trying to accomplish this semester in IPT 287. In the book Jonassen presented the idea that the real purpose of technology integration is to help people think critically. The technology (be it computers, software, digital gadgets and or gizmos) will only be useful as we use them to help scaffold knowledge and push our cognitive understanding and growth by allowing the digital technology to help us "think on a higher level (more critically, creatively, etc.). I have witnessed repercussions of this in my own teaching experience, watching junior high kids take the technology of programming, and using it to understand concept thinking and sequencing. I have noticed as they apply this method of thinking in their other subject areas they have started to excel in all aspects of school. I hope we all take advantage of today's technology to help our students make a more effective, enjoyable world of tomorrow by helping them think more critically.
If any of you ever need anything please contact me.
Happy Holidays!
