What do you think?
As I was listening to NPR the other morning there was a comment made that "a vote for Bush is a vote to kill more Americans (concerning the soldiers in Iraq).
This statement doesn't have so much to do with who one voted for, but rather with the terrible happenings of this War. In fact, even today, as I post this and listen to the radio and learn of 10 additional American soldiers who have died during the siege of Falluja, I am saddened by the lack of concern, interest, and compassion our society has displayed. It seems unless we are individually connected to the War through a relative, or close friend, that we as a nation seem to offer a lot of rhetoric in either support for, or against the war, but it often seems this rhetoric is lost or forgotten during our "busy" days, or is stated in a rush of empty comment and concern. I am not suggesting that we should bow our heads and be tearful 24/7, but I do pray for a quick, effective, and beneficial solution to this conflict. Because, I for one am saddened that so many have died, and although I will do as our Articles of Faith suggest, and support our leaders, I would hope we find a way to bring our brothers and sisters home safely, and soon.

I think you have some interesting points. I am sure most people are saddened to hear of the American casualties in Iraq. However, I disagree that there is a "lack of concern, interest, and compassion" in our society. I have heard numerous projects being carried out by radio stations and businesses that want to show support for our troops, ranging from writing letters to sending care packages--these are complete strangers sending their thoughts, prayers, and support for soldiers they will probably never even meet. It all comes down to who you listen to and who you don't. The media has a great way of portraying things in a very different light from what is really going on. If you listen to more conservative radio programs, you will hear about all the soldiers over there who believe in what they are fighting for. They are willing and ready to do what they are asked to do. I am also sure most people also pray for a "quick, effective, and beneficial solution to this conflict." What it boils down to is this: Do you believe that establishing freedom for other human beings is a just and worthy cause and do you believe that this is what the soldiers are trying to do in Iraq?
I have a problem with people who are so negative towards Bush and his decision to go to war. I too, do not like to see Americans being killed and families being hurt by it but at the same time what should have happened then? I support the decision for this war 100% because action needed to take place and defend our country and the freedoms that we enjoy. I am extremely grateful to those who are fighting for me and for this wonderful country and thank goodness that we are not sitting around hoping that things will get better but waiting and sitting! When does that ever work?? I will continue to support our President and those noble and courageous soldiers who protect my rights and most importantly my freedom.
Unfortunately I am not totally educated on everything about the war in Iraq. I do remember very well, however, the feelings I experienced on 9-11. Feelings, ironically, that are very hard to explain. I also remember the feelings I experienced as President Bush addressed the nation. I knew at that moment that I would put my trust in him, along with the other leaders of our country, to handle this situation to the best of their ability. Since then, I have continued to pray for our leaders as they make crucial decisions. I feel very lucky to have President Bush as our Commander in Chief because I believe he truly does what he feels is necessary. When my Uncle Mike returned from Iraq, after completing a communications mission there for 9 months, I was very interested to hear his perspective on all of the anti-war, anti-Bush, comments. He had nothing negative to say about the way things have been handled. I will continue to pray for the leaders of our nation as we continue to fight this war.
