Don't worry "Blogs" are new to me too! And to be honest they might seem a little strange and difficult to manage at first. However, as you view this Blog it acts as testimony that they are both helpful, functional, and not difficult to manage once you brave the "Blog" adventure.
This blog will be used to present and discuss the various topics, questions, concerns, assignments, et cetra of IP&T 287. For example in IP&T we will discuss not only in class but on blogs one of our main IPT 287 objectives: to understand how educators can integrate technology in the classroom (wait a sec., isn't this whole "blogging" idea a great representation of how technology can be integrated in the classroom!)
Rick West (he teaches a different section of IPT 287) mentioned the following on his blog that I thought was insightful and would be of some service to you:
"I know we have about a dozen English majors in our class. You should look at Will Richardson's Weblogged and Barbara Ganley's bgblogging. These are a couple of great teachers who use blogs to teach high school writing. Those of you in other disciplines, try searching for some great educational weblogs in your area and let us know when you find some!
GETTING STARTED: If blogs are new to you, get started by making your own blog at blogger.com. They have pretty easy directions, but if you get lost, click here to download a tutorial (made by Rick West) which should be of some service to you. You'll need to sign up for a free Bloglines aggregator, too. An aggregator is what allows you to read the blogs that you "subscribe" to. It's like getting a daily newspaper of the stuff you want to read, and none of the stuff you don't. You subscribe to your favorite blogs, and the aggregator compiles the stuff from these blogs so you can read them all at once. It's very helpful."
In my opinion Rick is really the brain behind this blogging idea, so if you have any questions please contact me and I will make sure to "ask the Blogging man." (To view Rick's blog and find out what he and the students he's teaching are doing in IPT 287, click here.)
Have fun navigating and exploring this site and enjoying the "blogging" adventure!
